I'm Just Sayin'

OK, I know we are supposed to serve one another as if we're serving the Lord, right?
Many, many times that thought has been the very thing which moved me to do the things I might not otherwise have done.
Like when Joshua used to "need" a drink of water. Every night. After he was snugly tucked into bed.
Not before he got there.
Nope, thirst never arrived until after he was in bed.
One night I was about to tell him I was NOT going to get him a drink this time, when the thought came to me - If I was tucking Jesus into bed and He asked for a drink of water, I would retrieve it with joy!
So I got Joshua's cup of water, and every night thereafter I thought of bringing Jesus a drink.

Soooo, this past Christmas morning after all our festivities were over and I was feeling a little tired - when I thought it would be nice to just sit and do nothing - Joshua asked if I would make pancakes.

I.did.not.want.to.

But it was CHRISTMAS morning!

We were celebrating JESUS!

And if Jesus asked me to make pancakes for Him, you know I surely would! So I put aside my selfish desires and made pancakes for my children.
Mixing, pouring, and flipping for Jesus, yes, I was!
I even warmed the syrup and set the table for my precious offspring.
When it was all ready, I called them to the table and they enjoyed those pancakes. And when their bellies were full, they happily went off to enjoy their Christmas presents.
Without cleaning their plates, or even offering to help put the kitchen back together. Nope. Those tasks were left to dear ol' Mom.
And I quickly remembered, I would do it for Jesus...

Then - just as quickly - I thought back to myself, If I were serving Jesus pancakes for breakfast, HE would invite me to join Him in enjoying them, and then He would probably clean up the whole kitchen Himself!

I'm just sayin'!

LOL!!! Had to laugh only because it was a duplicate of our Christmas morning!!!!But oh how true a lesson we need to serve as if we were serving Jesus because in that example our children will learn to serve each other....

LOL! When I saw the title I was pretty sure of what must be coming! LOL! It is so hard to be a mom...I struggle too with my job on teaching them to serve. Sure I can display it but I should also instruct them to serve, shouldn't I? It is great that you had that attitude. It helps me as well many, many moments in the day to remember I serve Jesus. Your children will one day rise up and call you blessed. You work for a heavenly reward dear sister. God sees. Yes? Hey, come on by for a pic that is worth a thousand words over at my place! Love ya!

Mamajil - Yes. I do hope my children will learn from my example. Which is also why I'm trying to learn to serve with joy.
Every day, by the grace of God!

Leslie - Yeah, it's that instructing thing. Lead by example, but will they just "catch it"? I think I need to instruct as well. But I don't want to guilt them into serving. One more way I need to rely on HIM.
On my way over to see that pic!

It seems like such a simple thing to learn, but so important and life changing once we can realize that everything (even pancakes) is done in His name!

And I love the idea of eating pancakes with Jesus. You know how amazingly thankful He would be and He would make us feel as if we just accomplished something great!

O Mom - Yes. Even pancakes.
Oh, can you just imagine sitting down at the table with Jesus, and serving Him pancakes? I would LOVE IT!!!

Nichole - I love your momma heart!
To meet you face to face. What a gift that would be! Jesus, if You're willing...

I don't know, Leah. I'm sure Jesus makes good manna, but my pancakes are pretty good, too. I think He would like to try them. *grin*

LOL, first I have to say I love the way you ended this post!! PERFECT!!

Second, it seems God is really speaking to me today because I have been struggling at home with serving and not getting frustrated about the little things. I am so glad I am back to blogging and that I stopped by... I will use the if it was Jesus scenario and I am sure it will get me over this hump.

Thanks again!!

Ronel - Thanks. *grin*
Those little things can really get you, can't they?! So glad God is BIG enough to get us past them.
And I'm glad you're back to blogging, too. It's good to hear from you!

Karen this is so funny!!! Jesus certainly would clean off the entire kitchen. Thanks for the laughs! Be blessed!!

Karen Hossink said...

Gianna - Yeah, being perfect, He would have gotten it all done. And in the right order.
Glad you laughed. *grin*

Angie - I love that Jesus takes care of EVERYTHING, and that He laughs, too.

LOL! Loved the way you "flipped" it at the end for Jesus. Yes He would probably help and enlist the help of the whole family too! But you know He was smiling big at the breakfast you made for Him.

I now have a sudden craving for pancakes. Would you mind whippin' me up a batch? ...please :D

Karen Hossink said...

Edie - If you come to Michigan, I'll make my special pancakes for you. The ones I decorate with colored batter. *grin*

I won't forget that. :)
