This Week's WORD

Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

Psalm 139:4

Continuing with Leah and Challenge 2010: A Scripture Memorization Challenge, I added Psalm 139:4 to my heart and mind this week. Been repeating it over and over again to commit it to memory.
I am not sure I have ever been so mindful of the words that come out of my mouth, as I have been this week. One day (At the end of the five-day weekend, no doubt!) when I let an unkind word come out of my mouth, I was so sad. I knew God knew that word before it was even on my tongue. And I knew it made Him sad.
So I was sad.
I know May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. comes from a different Psalm (19:14, to be exact) but that has become my prayer as I am meditating on 139:4, as well.
HE knows my words, HE knows my heart, and I want them to be pleasing.

Keep your eyes fixed upon your Savior this weekend.
I'll see you back here Monday!

Oh sista!!! This verse just slays me because way tooooooo often the word on my tongue is out of my mouth before my heart engages in the process. Psalm 139: 4 needs to be tattoed on my forehead, my hands and anywhere else I might see it every day.

Oops, sorry to take up two comment spots, but I forgot to tell you I did my first MOPS talk last night. It was fun!! I'm not known as a MOPS speaker--for obvious reasons--no kiddos at my house.

However, I was second string. The planned speaker was sick and so the MOPS leader is a member of my Life Group at church and she called and asked if I had anything I could do on short notice...very short...about 4 hours. Of course I did and it was very well received. Actually one of the moms came up to me afterward and said that God sent me there with that message for her specifically.

Whew!! Love to just sit back and watch Him show off!! In spite of me.

One of my favorite pieces of scripture...and my heart's cry every day!

Leah - I understand!
Hey, way cool on the MOPS thing. An unplanned moment for them, totally in God's plans. Yes. It is wonderful to watch Him show off!

Leslie - As I am memorizing this psalm, it is becoming my heart's cry every day, too. And that's a good thing!

This brought tears to my eyes, because I too know the pain of saying or even thinking some ugly things and realizing the pain it caused Him. I love Psalm 139, I can still remember the first time I read it and it just grabbed my heart.

O Mom - God has a way of doing that, doesn't He? Grabbing our hearts? And I pray the longer He holds mine, the more it will become like His!

It always amazes me how packed full His Word is...thank you Karen for this reminder to be glorifying in all we do...thought, word and deed!

Have a fantastic weekend with your family!

Amen! That's one of my favorite verses. I'd do well to put it into practice more often.
Great post. Thank you!

Awesome verse. May be my next memory verse as well. I just love how we are all continuing to hide God's Word deep in our hearts. I know that He is honored by our dedication to Him.

Have a great weekend sweetie!

Ephesians 4:29 goes along nicely with this psalm saying let only things that are uplifting and helpful and beneficial for people be on your tongue.
But I need to think about the fact that Jesus knows my heart even before I am thinking about it. And when I snap at my superstars, He already knows that I am going to be ugly. AUGH! I'm so glad He doesn't give up me!

I'd have to agree with Jessica. I need to put this verse in practice way more than I do.
Have a blessed weekend!

Nichole - Thanks. We ARE having a fun weekend. Even went out to the movies. *grin*

Jessica - I think we all would. And our families would be grateful.

Beth - Ah, yes. I believe it pleases Him!

Gianna - Ephesians 4:29. Yes. Have you ever read Florence Littauer's book Silver Boxes? Good stuff!

Angie - As I said to Jessica, I think we all need to be more aware of our words and God's knowledge -and seek to honor Him with it all!

Karen, Been struggling so hard lately - yelling a lot. Treating my very strong willed & sassy 6 year old like a small adult and not a child. Thank you for this reminder.

Nicole - I pray you will find that God will be your Strength in the midst of the struggle!
