I still can hardly believe what I have been seeing over the past few weeks.
My little ADHD guy - who hates reading and who never sits still - has been found seated quietly on the couch, in a corner, even in his bed with the lights off (Because he was supposed to be SLEEPING!) reading books from the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. I think he is on his third one right now.
For the past few weeks I have been telling this child he needs to stop reading so he can come eat dinner. I've told him to stop reading so I can talk to him. I have even confiscated his book and hidden it so he would get some sleep!
Honestly, I love that Matthew is so enjoying this book series.
I love that he is spending waaaaay more time reading than he is on electronics.
It's just that I hardly recognize this person in my house now.
Reading. All.the.time.
Quiet and calm. (Except when he's excited to tell me about Percy's latest really awesome adventure.)
Content to do that which he has previously proclaimed 'Boring!'
Now, if I can just find a way for Percy to help us with homework! *wink*

This warmed my heart. I'm a "reader" and I spent many an afternoon w/ Christen trying to get her to read while I read. Never worked. I always prayed something would click and she would love to read, but so far, it's a no go.
Don't you just love seeing them engrossed in a book rather than a game or tv or movie? Just makes me smile!

Jodi - Yeah, my other son is definitely on the non-reader list. Still hoping he'll find something to hook him in a book.
I would love to be more of a reader, myself - but time is not on my side. *sigh*
Patricia - Had to tear Matthew away from Percy tonight to get him to set the table for dinner and eat. And then he was chomping at the bit to be excused so he could get back to his book. It really is cute. *grin*
Love to see kids lost in reading and letting their imaginations flow. I'm sure your enjoying the extra quiet as well. Blessings friend.
If you find a way for Percy to help with homework, please let me know. You know I have my own little ADHD Opie Taylor...he could hear a fly fart behind Wal Mart - may be too graphic but it is the truth....
