What HE Said - Part 3

"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" - which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Matthew 27:46

For quite some time this statement confused me. God promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Why, then, would He forsake His own Son - when His Son needed Him the most?
But one day, as a friend and I were thinking about this together, I felt I finally understood.
Just think about it!
What happened on the cross?
Jesus took upon Himself all the sin of the world. Past, present, and future.
He became sin, so that He could pay the penalty we owed.

And a holy God cannot be in the presence of sin.
Cannot.
That's why we were not fit for heaven. Our sin separates us from Him.

So when Jesus took our sin upon Himself, God had to forsake Him.
God couldn't be with Jesus. Because of the sin.
Because of my sin.

And so these words of Jesus' give me confidence that HE did, indeed, become sin on my behalf. Jesus took on our sin.

Why else would God forsake Him?

No other reason....Jesus was forsaken so we would never have to be.

Humbling, isn't it?

Leah - Yes. It is.
But at the same time, it fills my heart with joy - to know HE loves me. That much!!!

Jodi - Grace is a beautiful thing, that we would get what we don't deserve. And the mercy - not getting what we DO deserve.
We are so unworthy, but so loved. :o)

Yup! Also, Jesus was reciting scripture, (Psalm 22), kinda like to let us know that the prophecy was being fulfilled.

To think that He took on ALL my sins and became forsaken by His Father so that I will never be forsaken....my heart is overflowing for the love He has for me. So thankful. So thankful.

Larie - He's got all those details covered. Makes me wonder why I ever worry!

Cindy - Yes. HE did it, so we wouldn't have to. How can I keep from singing HIS praise?!
